About Us

BROOKS COMMUNITY ADULT LEARNING COUNCIL (BCALC) is a non-profit organization which was incorporated in 2003. BCALC is part of a network of over 80 Community Adult Learning Council’s (CALC)’s which operate within Alberta. These organizations operate under Alberta Advanced Education and Technology. They were established to provide part-time, non-credit opportunities to adults within specified geographic boundaries.

BCALC is mandated to provide programming in the areas of Adult Basic Literacy, English as a Second Language, Employability Enhancement and General Interest courses.

GOVERNANCE
BCALC is governed by a board of directors. We presently have a complement of 6 directors including the positions of Chairperson, Vice Chair and Treasurer.

STAFF
Administratively, the office is staffed by a Coordinator, Finance Manager and Office Manager. We have a complement of 15 teachers.

VISION
BCALC strives to be a leader in the development, coordination and establishment of a community of adult learners so that their lifelong learning needs and wants may be fulfilled.

MISSION
BCALC cultivates and promotes literacy and lifelong learning for adults in the City of Brooks.

FUNDING
Approximate 84% of our funding is from Citizenship and Immigration Canada to support the Language Instruction for New Canadians (LINC) program.  Alberta Advanced Education and Technology provides a base grant which primarily supports Administration and English as a Second Language (ESL) for Temporary Foreign Workers and Canadian Citizens.
